Two interdisciplinary postdoctoral research positions are available starting from as early as Feb. 2007 in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Texas at Arlington. The positions represent an opportunity to study nanopore stochastic sensing via engineered trans-membrane proteins and polymeric nanopores for applications in chemistry and biotechnology at the single molecule level. One position is in molecular biology/biochemistry. Can didates should have intensive experience in cassette mutagenesis, SDS-Page, and PCR. The other position is in bioanalytical/biophysical/material chemistry. candidates having experience with at least one of the following fields are desired: nanomaterials/nanofabrication, microfluidics, biosensor, protein and peptide chemistry, molecular biology, and/or single molecule detection. For the two positions, hands-on knowledge of IVTT, ion channel, membrane, artificial polymeric pore, and patch-clamp is a plus. Review of applicants will begin immediately. Applicants should have a Ph.D. by the end of 2007 in Chemistry, Chemical/Bio Engineering, Cell/Molecular Biology or related fields. To apply, please send a CV (including a publication list), a brief description of current and previous research, and the names and contact information of at least two references to Dr. Guan at xguan@uta.edu The date for application of the positions is by July 31, 2007.
